How Upside Down Letters Work in Unicode
Unicode was never designed for rotated text, so an upside down font generator relies on characters that happen to look like flipped Latin letters. Many come from the IPA block used by linguists: ɐ (turned a), ǝ (turned e), ɹ (turned r), ʇ (turned t) and ʍ (turned w). Others are simple stand-ins — a lowercase b becomes q and p becomes d because the shapes already match when rotated. Uppercase letters use ∀, Ǝ, Ⅎ, ┴ and ⅄, and digits use characters like Ɛ and ㄣ.
A few letters have no convincing flipped form and stay the same: H, I, N, O, S, X, Z and the lowercase l, o, s, x and z are symmetrical enough to pass.
